CPISM certification classes filling up
June 30th, 2008 Posted in Conferences
I just checked the SPSP website under Events and noticed the CPISM certification training and exam are filling up. The list of people attending includes Fortune 500 companies and lots of people from the Payments Industry.
Take a look and see if you can get funding to attend the training and exam on August 13-15, 2008 in Salt Lake City, UT. I’ll be there along with others to network and discuss the Payments Industry. After the intensive classes during the day, I’ll be leading up activities in the evening. Remember, I was married in Salt Lake City, so I can get the lowdown on events and places to go.
This should be a memorable event for all those involved!
Also, if you are interested, the SPSP is looking for other bloggers who write about PCI to get their feeds listed on the SPSP site.

Hi, where can I find a detailed agenda for the CPISM training? I went to the SPSP website and could not find anything other than date, location, time, etc. Also, can you comment on the demand for this certification? I’ve asked some QSAs I know about it and they were skeptical, saying they’d not heard of it.

Cara, you can find detailed information including the overview document, bibliography, and study guide.

Currently, the Aegenis Group (including me) trains all QSAs globally. In order to be a QSA you must work for a qualified QSA company.
We recognized that many individuals would like to have a certification to reflect their knowledge and skill in this industry. As a result the SPSP has created an industry certification for everyone who ever sits across the table from a QSA.
Since we train the QSAs and teach the certification classes you know you will receive a high level of experience and instruction. Also, the test itself is rigorous and covers a superset of what the QSAs must know. This ensures that those holding the CPISM or CPISA will have a strong understanding of PCI and the payments industry at large.

I highly recommend the CPISA/CPISM for individuals who manage or implement regulatory compliance issues within their company.

Thank you for the info. You mentioned a CPISA certification — will that be offered in the future? Is it a lower cert level than the CPISM in the same way there the CISA auditor cert is a lower level than the CISM?

@Cara, yes the CPISM is for Managers (thus the “M”) whereas the CPISA is for Auditors (thus the “A”). The CPISA will be out later this year.

Ah, so the CPISA would be best for internal auditors who most often serve double duty auditing internally and helping their companies with compliance matters–and the QSA is for external auditors. Okay, I think I understand now, thank you. The CPISA looks very interesting. I look forward to hearing more about it in the future.

Cara, the CPISA is being offered in November, in Dallas, TX. Check the SPSP website for enrollment.
