Network Solutions Announces Data Compromise

On Friday Network Solutions announced they had been the victim of data thieves and had experienced a data breach that impacted a number of their merchants. You can read the SC Magazine article here. They were apparently validated as PCI compliant at the time of the breach. As with the Heartland, and RBSWorldpay, it demonstrates the challenges faced by companies in the payment card industry to protect data and sends a clear message that compliance is not security. More troubling is that according to their website the breach affected over 4,000 of their merchants. This is a tough situation for all involved. On a positive note, it looks like Network Solutions identified the breach and took steps to mitigate.
