DHS Looking for 1,000 CyberSecurity Experts! Happy CSAM!!
October 2nd, 2009 by cmark Posted in PCI DSSAn article on CNN says that the Department of Homeland Security is looking for 1,000 cybersecurity experts over the next 3 years. The head of the DHS announced this at the start of ”National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.” If you have mad skills maybe you can work for the fed. I had never heard of this awareness month but apparently it is October and this is the sixth annual awareness month. So….happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month! I don’t know how to celebrate but I am guessing that a beer or two is in order…
For anyone looking for new employment the US Government may be your next stop. Before you apply I have to tell this story…
Heather passed the foreign service exam in 2001 and was asked to fly to DC to interview to be a foreign service officer. She flew from Dallas to DC for the 8:00 am interview at the location provided in her very formal and government looking information package. At 7:30 she calls me at home from DC and says she is standing in front of someones’ house but it is the address provided in her package. I double check the address and sure enough it is the correct address. It goes without saying she missed her interview as the office that sent the info did not open until 9:00am. When she finally got through to the very polite person at answering the phone she was told that although the address on the package was incorrect, it was her (Heather’s) job as an applicant to know where to go for the interview. Needless to say, she opted for a different career path….
